How do you beat the same-job different-day blues?

How do you beat the same job blues?

No matter what type of job you have – or if you don’t currently have a job – keeping yourself motivated and passionate can be a daunting task. Attending the same office, working with the same people and doing the same thing day in and day out can really put a damper on the once-found newness of your career. Why not try some of these ideas to keep your love for your career burning?

Learn a new skill.
Any skill that adds value for your employer adds value to you. Could your office benefit from gaining a know-it-all on a certain topic? Take a class, attend a seminar or conference and you can become the expert. Continuing education is important no matter which field you’re in. If you are in claims, get your Associate in Claims (AIC) or take a leadership course. Adding new skills is a win-win because it will make you happy and even more invaluable to your employer.

Take a Vacation.
Haven’t had a day off in a while and the weekends aren’t cutting it? You’re probably long overdue for a vacation, stay-cation or mini-break from your work. Taking a step back from your job duties can give you the space you need to clear your mind and to come back ready to take on the world.

Remember the good stuff.
No one is going to be in love with their job all day – every day. But when you’re having a rough day, it’s nice to remember that you love your job, usually. We all know that there will be rough days at work; tasks we don’t want to do, people we’d rather not talk to, but at the end of the day, loving your job is what makes you (and I) keep showing up and getting the job done. Focus on the things you love about your job instead of dwelling on the negative. If you consciously make a point to focus on the positive you will see how quickly your attitude will follow suit.

Ask for Feedback.
Getting a pat on the back from your boss is always nice, but receiving constructive feedback puts your career goals in perspective. Knowing areas of improvement helps you have a goal to work toward. Working on improving oneself can boost your passion and productivity. Ask your boss if they recognize areas of improvement or if there are opportunities that can be explored to enhance your role within the company. In any relationship, it’s great to know where you stand.
